The tiny Norfolk village of Litcham is situated 10 kilometres north east of Swaffham and 40 kilometres from the county town of Norwich. Despite being only a small village it did hold its own series of race meetings, beginning on Wednesday 3rd July 1839 when the principal event was the Litcham Silver Cup. The course was in fields on the outskirts of the village, complete with grandstand. Although a Match was held on Wednesday 20th May 1840 when Mr Carter’s bay horse got the better of Mr Palmer’s brown mare, the second full meeting was staged on Wednesday 3rd June 1840 when the Silver Cup was won by Mr T Raven’s Fox-Hunter. A final meeting took place on Wednesday 9th June 1841 enjoyed by a ‘fashionable assemblage of principal families in the neighbourhood’ and a crowded stand.  The opening Hunters Stakes went to Mr B Land’s Changling, while the Litcham Stakes was won by Mount Eagle, who beat Day Star and Sadek. After racing an Ordinary was held at the Bull Hotel.
